ወያኔ በግንቦት 7 ስም ሠላማዊ ዜጎችን ማሰቃየቱን ባስቸኳይ ማቆም አለበት

ባለፉት አራትና አምስት አመታት በግልጽ እንዳየነዉ የኢትዮጵያ ህዝብ እኩልነቱን፤ መብቱንና ነጻነቱን ለማስከበር የሚያደርገዉ ትግል ጫና በፈጠረበት ቁጥር ዘረኛዉ የወያኔ አገዛዝ የራሱን ህገመንግስት የሚደፈጥጡ ህጎች አርቅቆ አያጸደቀ ሠላማዊ ዜጎችን አስሯል፤ ገድሏል ከአገር እንዲሰደዱም አድርጓል። ለምሳሌ በ2003 ዓም የኢትዮጵያ ፓርላማ ከቤተመንግሰት የተላለፈለትን ትዕዛዝ አክብሮ ለኢትዮጵያ ህዝብ መብትና ነፃነት መከበር የሚታገለዉን የግንቦት 7 ንቅናቄ ሽብርተኛ አድርጎ ፈርጇል። ይህ ፈር የለቀቀ ፍረጃ ደግሞ ወያኔ የሱን ዘረኛ ስርዐት የሚቃወሙ ግለሰቦችን፤ ሀሳባቸዉን በነፃነት የሚገልጹ ዜጎችን፤ ጋዜጠኞችን፤ የፖለቲካ ፓርቲ መሪዎችንና ከወያኔ ጋር አናብርም ያሉ ወጣት ኢትዮጵያዉያንን “ግንቦት ሰባቶች” ናችሁ እያለ በጅምላ እያሰረ እንዲያሰቃይ ህጋዊ ሽፋን ሰጥቶታል። ለምሳሌ ከፍትህና ከነጻነት ጥማት ዉጭ ከግንቦት 7 ንቅናቄ ጋር ምንም አይነት ግኑኝነት የሌለዉን የፖለቲካ ፓርቲ መሪዉን አንዱአለም አራጌን፤ ታዋቂዉን ጋዜጠኛ እስክንድር ነጋንና መምህርት ርኢዮት አለሙን የግንቦት 7 አባላት ናቸዉ የሚል ሰንካላና መሠረተ ቢስ ክስ መስርቶ ለረጂም ዘመን እስራት ዳርጓቸዋል።

The Race to Save Ethiopians Damned by the Dam

Exactly two years ago to the month, I wrote a commentary entitled, “The Dam and the Damned: Gilgel Gibe III Ethiopia” focusing on the impact of   “development” in the Omo River Basin (ORB) in southern Ethiopia. In that commentary, I echoed the deep concerns voiced by various international human rights and environmental organizations over the ecological impact and cost of that dam on the lives of indigenous populations.

I also made it a special point to express gratitude and appreciation to “the great international human rights organization that have created so much international awareness on the precarious environmental situation in the Omo River Basin.” I am even more profoundly grateful to International Rivers, Human Rights Watch, the Oakland Institute, Survival International and the Africa Resources Working Group two years later for the extraordinary work they continue to do to save the environment and the indigenous people in the ORB. For years, these organizations have been in the forefront of the race to save Ethiopians damned by the Gilgel Gibe III hydroelectric dam.

The various international organizations have done invaluable work by raising public awareness and undertaking advocacy campaigns to bring international attention to the ecological disaster taking place in the ORB. Over the years, they have all issued meticulously prepared field reports, research and policy analyses and other scientific and statistical reports documenting the effect of the “development programs” of the regime in power in Ethiopia on the lives and livelihoods of the people of the ORB. They have all sought to advocate and mobilize international public opinion to bring sanity to the madness of Gibe III dam, the flagitious leasing of tribal lands in the Basin for sugar and rice plantations for the export sector and to stop the forced resettlement (“villagization”) of indigenous communities.

In my 2012 commentary, I also publicly lamented the fact that Ethiopians, particularly those of us in the Diaspora, have been standing on the sidelines with arms folded as the various international human rights and environmental organizations groups were running a steep uphill race to save Ethiopians in the ORB. We have been silently watching them doing all of the heavy lifting for us.  At the time, I pleaded with all Ethiopians to “join and help international human and environmental rights organizations help us, and engage in vigorous environmental activism of our own.” I appealed for the “creation of our own environmental civil society organizations, particularly in the Diaspora, to ensure that Ethiopia’s rich and diverse ecosystem is preserved and protected today and for future generations.” I also warned, “If we fail to do that, we will all find ourselves in the same position as the people of the Omo River Basin who are damned by the dam.”

Ethiopia, Yesterday and Today

Ethiopia has a significant history reaching over 3,000 years into the past. The word “Ethiopia” has become a term for the idea of African solidarity and freedom, not just the name of a nation or a region. The ancient Greek historian Herodotus noted the region of Ethiopia as home to “people with burnt faces.” During the Greek and Roman eras, everything south of the Sahara Desert in Africa was generally referred to as Ethiopia or Abysinnia.

Biblical references also label Ethiopia as Cush, Kesh, Ekosh and Shewa (Sheba) in the Hebrew language. These were the names used in Solomon’s courts when he received a visit from the Ethiopian Queen of Sheba. The biblical “Song of Solomon” praises her physical beauty. In modern times, especially since the battle of Adwa, Ethiopia has been seen as a de facto model of freedom for all black cultures sand societies world-wide.

This held true up until the time the current political regime came to power. At least this is a homegrown terror and not a conquering white European army. This renegade regime has been busy throwing fellow citizens off of their ancestral lands and leasing them to international corporations. Freedom of the press is nonexistent and journalists are jailed regularly. The current corrupt politicians have even set about the process of changing history by denying the importance of the Battle of Adwa, and mocking the reign of Menelik and Taytu.

Commemorating the Victory at Adwa

In an effort to head off the rewriting of history, Ethiopian-Americans and other members of the African diaspora will commemorate the Victory at Adwa at Veterans Plaza in the Silver Spring Civic Building in Maryland. Historians will be on hand to offer their take on the importance of the battle – and its global impact – at the gathering that will take place on Sunday, March 2, 2014. All citizens of the D.C. Metro area are encouraged to attend.

የመከላከያ ተቋም ተግባር አገርን መጠበቅ ነዉ ወይስ አገርን መዝረፍ?

የአዉሮፓ ቅኝ ገዢዎች አፍሪካን ሲቀራመቱ ባህር ተሻግረዉ በመጡ የነጭ ባዕዳን ኃይሎች መገዛትን መርጦ የአዉሮፓን ወራሪዎች በሰላም በሩን ከፍቶ ወደ አገሩ ያስገባ እንድም የአፍሪካ አገር አልነበረም፤ የኋላ ኋላ ተሸንፈዉ በቅኝ አገዛዝ ቀንበር ስር ቢወድቁም ሁሉም የአፍሪካ አገሮች እንደ አቅማቸዉ ከወራሪ ኃይሎች ጋር ተፋልመዋል። በአንድ ወቅት የቅርብ ጎረቤቶቻችንን ጨምሮ ብዙዎቹ የአፍሪካ አገሮች በወራሪ ኃይሎች ተሸንፈዉ የቅኝ ገዢዎች ቀንበር ጀርባቸዉ ላይ ሲጫን አገራችን ኢትዮጵያ ብቻዋን የአለም ጥቁር ህዝቦች የነፃነት ተምሳሌት ሆና የኖረችዉ ጣሊያኖች፤ እንንግሊዞችና ፈረንሳዮች ከሌሎች የአፍሪካ አገሮች ለይተዉ ስለወደዷት ወይም ስላከበሯት አይደለም። ይልቁንም ነፃነታችንና የግዛት አንድነታችን ተከብሮ የኖረዉ ኢትዮጵያ እናት አገሩ በጠላት ስትደፈር ከሚያይ ምትክ የሌላት ህይወቱ ብታልፍ ደስ የሚለዉ የኩሩና የጀግና ህዝብ አገር በመሆኗ ነዉ። የሚገርመዉ ይህ ኩሩና ጀግና ህዝብ ጣሊያንን የመሰለ በዘመናዊ መሳሪያ የታጀበ ኃይል ዉርደቱን ተከናንቦ ወደመጣበት እንዲመለስ ሲያስገድድ እንደ ዛሬዉ የተደራጀ ዘመናዊ የመከላከያ ሰራዊት አልነበረዉም። ዛሬ አራት ኪሎና ስድስት ኪሎ ላይ የተተከሉት ሁለቱ ታሪካዊ ሀዉልቶቻችን የሚነግሩንም ይሀንኑ የኢትዮጵያ ህዝብ በዘመናዊ መልክ የተደራጀ ሠራዊት ሳይኖረዉ የጎበዝ አለቃ እየመረጠ በጣሊያን ፋሺስቶች ላይ የተጎናጸፈዉን አኩሪ ድል ነዉ።

Saving Ethiopia From the Chopping Block

WE live in a time that gives new meaning to Shakespeare’s line in Julius Caesar: “The evil that men do lives after them…” Today we come face to face with the evil Meles Zenawi has done when he lived. A piece of Ethiopia is retailed once again to the Sudan. They call it “border demarcation.” I call it call it border slicing, dicing and pricing — all for thirty pieces of silver!

In July 2008, I gave an impassioned speech in defense of the territorial integrity of the Ethiopian motherland at a conference called by a North American civic society group known as “Gasha for Ethiopia”:

We are here today to help stop Meles Zenawi from completing his evil plans to dismember our motherland. When Meles gave away the Port of Assab, we remained silent and paid the price of being landlocked. In 1998, Badme was invaded and 80,000 Ethiopians sacrificed their lives and drove back the enemy. But Meles promptly converted Ethiopia’s battlefield victory into total diplomatic defeat by agreeing to deliver Badme to the invaders in arbitration… (Today) we are told by people who live in Western Ethiopia that Meles has delivered their ancestral lands and homes to Sudanese dictator [and fugitive from justice at the International Criminal Court] Omar al-Bashir in a secret agreement…

I deeply regret that six years after I gave that speech, we have not been able to thwart Meles’ evil plans to dismember our motherland. Meles is gone and we now face the evil that lives after him. Is it true that “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men and women do nothing”? Has evil finally triumphed?

In December 2013, Sudanese foreign minister Ali Karti announced that the ruling regimes in Ethiopia and the Sudan “have ended their border disagreement on ‘Fashaga’ area” and “agreed to resolve all their border demarcation disputes.” Karti said the leaders of the two regimes have “signed a historical document putting the final demarcation lines.” Sudan’s foreign ministry rejected any suggestion of “border disputes” between Ethiopia and the Sudan indicating only that there were minor disagreements on “limited points at the border”. The public relations strategy of the regime in Ethiopia over the past weeks has been to been to underplay the “border demarcation issue” and overplay the “enormous significance” of the “strategic framework agreement” which allegedly includes “cooperation agreements on security, economic, agricultural, educational and cultural levels.”

ወያኔን ያሸበረው የግንቦት 7 መንገድ ምንድነው?

የትግራይን ሕዝብ ከብሄር ጭቆና ነጻ አወጣለሁ በሚል ጠባብ ዓላማ ተደራጅቶና ታጥቆ ለበትረ ሥልጣን የበቃው ህወሃት ወይም ሕዝባዊ ወያኔ ሃርነት ትግራይ ሥልጣን ከተቆጣጠረ 23 አመት ሊሞላው እነሆ ጥቂት ወራቶች ብቻ ቀርተውታል።

ለጋራ ቤታችን ለሆነቺው አገራችን ኢትዮጵያና በአስተዳደር በደል ለከፋ ድህነት ለተዳረገው መላው ሕዝቦቿ የሚሆን አንዳችም ራዕይ ሳይኖረው ለመንግሥትነት ሥልጣን የበቃው ይህ ቡድን ላለፉት 23 ዓመታት ከግል ኑሮአቸው አሻግረው የአገርንና የወገንን ጥቅም ማየት የማይችሉ ወይም የማይፈልጉትን በዙሪያው አሰባስቦ እያካሄደ ካለው ዘርፈ ብዙ የሃብት ምዝበራ ወንጀል በተጨማሪ እየፈጸመ ያለው የመብት ጥሰትና አፈና ተዘርዝሮ የሚያልቅ አይደለም።

ሰሞኑን እያፈተለኩ በመውጣት ላይ ከሚገኙ ምስጥራዊ የድምጽ መረጃዎች ለማረጋገጥ እንደተቻለው ደግሞ ለጥቂቶች የሃብትና የብልጽግና ምንጭ የሆነው ሥልጣን ከእጃቸው እንዳይወጣ በአንድ በኩል በምርጫ ስም እንዴት አድርገው ሕዝቡን ቀፍድደው የምርጫው ተሳታፊ ማድረግ እንደሚችሉ ሲዶልቱና በሌላ በኩል ደግሞ በቁጥጥራቸው ሥር የሌሉትንና ለሥልጣናቸው ያሰጉናል ያሉዋቸውን የደሃዉን ልጅ በማጋፈጥ እንዴት በጦርነት እንደሚጨፈልቁዋቸው ሲመክሩ ተሰምተዋል።

ከወያኔው ቁንጮ አንዱ የሆነው በረከት ስሞን በየደረጃው ላሉት የአገዛዙ ሹሞችና ካድሬዎች ባደረገው ገለፃ መሬትን የመንግሥት ባደረገው ኮሚኒስታዊ አዋጅ ምክንያት የመንግሥት ጭሰኛ ለመሆን የተፈረደበትን ሰፊውን አርሶ አደር “ተኛ ስንለው ይተኛል፤ ቁም ስንለው ይቆማል ፤ እንደፈለግን ብንበድለው እንኳ አያማርረንም ” እያለ ሲዘባበትበት ተደምጦአል ። በአንድ ለአምስት ኮሚንስታዊ አደረጃጀት ተጠርንፎ የወያኔ የንግድ ድርጅቶች ብቻ የሚያቀርቡትን ማዳበሪያና ምርጥ ዘር ያለውዴታው እንዲራገፍበትና ከአቅሙ በላይ ዕዳ እንዲቀፈቅፍ የተፈረደበት የኢትዮጵያ አርሶ አደር በዚህ አይነት ንቀት ደረጃ የሚዘባበትበትን መሪ ከወያኔው በረከት ስሞን በፊት ገጥሞት አያውቅም ። ለወደፊትም ሊያይ አይፈልግም ። ወያኔን ሥልጣን ላይ ለማምጣት የሰሜኑ ክፍለአገራችን አርሶ አደር የተጫወተው ሚና ተዘንግቶ በበረከት ስሞን እንዲህ መዋረዱ እጅግ ያሳዝናል። ለነገሩ ከፍተኛ የህይወት መስዋዕትነት ከፍሎ ለድል ያበቃው የትግራይ ሕዝብ ቁም ስቅሉን እያየ አይደል?

ሌላው አስገራሚ ክስተት በአገር ደህንነት ሥራ ላይ የተሰማሩ ዜጎች ባደረጉት ዝግ ስብሰባ ታማኝነታችን ለአገራችን ነው ወይስ የሥርዓቱን አገዛዝ ዕድሜ ለማራዘም? ብለው ላነሱት ጥያቄ የጠቅላይ ሚንስትር ተብዬው የህግ አማካሪ ጌታቸው ረዳ የሰጠው መልስ ነው። ደህንነት ብቻ ሳይሆን የመከላኪያ ሠራዊትና ፖሊስ ጭማር ታማኝነታቸውና ግዴታቸው ሥርዓቱን ሥልጣን ላይ ማቆየት መሆን አለበት ሲል ጌታቸው እንቅቹን ነግሮአቸዋል ። በምላሹ “ላለፉት 23 አመታት እያደረግነው ያለው ይሄው ሆኖ ሳለ አሁን ምን ብታስቡ ነው ጥያቄ ያነሳችሁ?” የሚል ይመስላል ። ይባስ ብሎም ሥርአቱን ለመጠበቅ ያልቻለና በግንቦት 7 መንገድ የሚጓዝ ደህንነት ሠራተኛ የተስፋየ ገብረስላሴን ያህል የደህንነት እውቀት ቢኖረውም ሆነ እስራኤል አገር የዓመታት ስልጠና ያገኘ ቢሆን ዋጋ የለውም ብሏቸዋል።

ለመሆኑ ወያኔዎች እንደመርገም የቆጠሩትና ተከታዮቻቸውን የሚያስፈራሩበት የግንቦት 7 መንገድ ምንድ ነው።?

የወያኔን የሚዲያ አፈና ማመከን የጊዜው አጣዳፊ ተግባር ነው

(ግንቦት 7) ዘረኛዉ የወያኔ አገዛዝ የአገራችንን በትረ ሥልጣን ከተቆጣጠረበት ጊዜ ጀምሮ ህዝባችን ስለራሱና ሰለአገሩ ምንም አይነት መረጃ ከአማራጭ የመገናኛ ብዙሃን ምንጮች እንዳያገኝ ያሉትን ዕድሎች በሙሉ ድርግም አድርጎ ዘግቶ ኖሮአል።

የወያኔ መሪዎችና ተሿሚዎች በየግላቸው ምንም ቁብ በማይሰጡትና ተቃዋሚዎች እንዲያከብሩት ነጋ ጠባ በሚወተውቱት የአገሪቱ ህገመንግሥት አንቀጽ 29 ዕውቅና ካገኙ የዜግች መብቶች አንዱ ሃሳብን በነጻነት የመግለጽ ተፈጥሮአዊ መብት ሆኖ ሳለ እየተካሄደ ያለውን የሥልጣን ብልግናና አገሪቱን እያራቆተ ያለውን ዘረፋ በመተቸታቸው ብቻ በአንድ ወቅት እንደ አሸን ፈልተው የነበሩ የነጻ ጋዜጣ አዘጋጆችና አሳታሚዎች በሽብርተኝነት ተወንጅለው ከፊሉ ከአገር እንዲሸሽ ሌላው አፉን ዘግቶ እንዲቀመጥ አለያም የፈጠራ ክስ እየተመሰረተባቸው እስር ቤት እንዲማቅቁ ተደርገዋል። አሁንም በመደረግ ላይ ናቸው። በወያኔ ሃሳብን በነጻነት የመግለጽና የዜጎች መረጃ የማግኘት መብት አፈና የአሜሪካና የጀርመን መንግሥታት በየግላቸው የሚያስተዳድሩዋቸው የአሜሪካና የጀርመን ድምጽ ሬዲዮኖች እንኳ ከጥቃቱ ማምለጥ ስላልቻሉ እነሆ እስከዛሬ ያልተቋረጠ የማጥላላት ዘመቻ ይካሄድባቸዋል።

ዜጎች ሃሳባቸውን በነጻነት መግለጽ ከቻሉና ከየትኛውም መዲያ መረጃ የማግኘት መብታቸው ከተረጋገጠ ሥልጣን ላይ ውሎ እንደማያድር ጠንቅቆ የተረዳው የወያኔ አገዛዝ በዚህ የሚዲያ አፈና ተግባሩ በመቀጠል ከሰሞኑ የኢትዮጵያ ሳታላይት ቴለቪዥንና ሬዲዮን እንዲሁም ህዝብ አልፎ አልፎ ሃሳቡን ለመግለጽ በሚገለገልባቸው ጥቂት የአገር ውስጥ ህትመቶች ላይ የተለመደውን የጥቃት ጅራፉን ለማሳረፍ ታጥቆ ተነስቶአል። ባለፈው ሳምንት መጨረሻ ላይ በመረጃና ደህንነት መሥሪያ ቤቱ ተዘጋጅቶ የህወሃት ቀድሞ ታጋዳላዮች በሚቆጣጠሩትና እንደግል ንብረታቸው በሚፈነጩባቸው የኢትዮጵያ ቴሌቪዥንና ሬዲዮ የተሰራጨው ዘገባ እንደሚያመለክተው ከአሁን ቦኋላ ማንኛዉም የመንግስት ባለስልጣን፤ የገዢዉ ፓርቲ አባላትና የተቃዋሚ ፓርቲ መሪዎች ምንም አይነት ቃለመጠይቅ ለኢትዮጵያ ሳተላይት ቴለቪዥንና ሬዲዮ እንዳይሰጡ ማስጠንቀቂያ ተሰጥቶአል። ማስጠንቀቂያውን ተላልፎ በተገኘ ማንም ሰው ወይም ድርጅት ላይ የአሸባሪነት ወንጀል ክስ እንደሚመሰረትበትም ዛቻና ማስፈራሪያ በተለመደው የቃላት ጋጋታ ተገልጾአል።

ይህ ከሰሞኑ የወያኔ ብሄራዊ መረጃ ደህንነትና ኮሚኒኬሽን መስሪያቤት ያወጣዉ ማስጠንቀቂያ አዘል መግለጫ የሚያሳየን ነገር ቢኖር ወያኔ ኢትዮጵያ ዉስጥ ዜጎች የሚናገሩትን ፤ የሚጽፉትን፤ የሚያነቡትንና የሚሰሙትን ብቻ ሳይሆን የሚያስቡትንና ሊደግፉት ወይም ሊቃወሙት ይችላል ተብሎ የሚጠረጠረውን ሁሉ አስቀድሞ ለመቆጣጠር ፍላጎቱ ያለው መሆኑን ነው።
